patriots Independance Day is one of my Mom's favorite holidays, because she and my Tanté Chris watch the movie 1776 on what seems like 50 or 60 different channels all through the week before. Then they get together for dinner and put it in the VCR so they can watch it together.

Chris is a big fan of musicals, and my Mom is a big fan of John Adams, so they really enjoy this. Dad and I enjoy it too, but we can't figure out why they bother to put the movie on, because they know every word of dialog and every song, and when their favorite parts come along, they sing really loud and they don't always wait for the actors to catch up. "Be not intimidated, therefore, by any terrors, from publishing with the utmost freedom whatever can be warranted by the laws of your country, nor suffer yourselves to be wheedled out of your liberty by any pretenses of politeness, delicacy, or decency. These, as they are often used, are but three different names for hypocrisy, chicanery, and cowardice" -John Adams (my hero)

Sit down, John!

 This year it really was
"hot as hell in Philadelphia,"
so we sang that part alot.

 Welcome to the
Hamster Midway

Mom told me that the boardwalk, hotdogs, and fireworks are the traditional summertime ways to celebrate. We don't live by the water like when Mom was little, and she told me I probably wouldn't like any of those things anyway. But she did make me popcorn, and she showed me how we could make our own fig-sized version of fireworks and carnival rides. They were lots of fun, and not nearly so noisy. (Except for all that singing.)

There were so many things to see and do!

I ran around on everything, trying to decide what to do first.

 the sleep-a-whirl

Here I am on the sleep-a-whirl, looking at all the lights of the hamster carnival. Summer sure is pretty!  Let's go get some food tickets.

After we ate our summer treats, we could look out on the hamster fireworks.

run There were lots of rides. They weren't really scary, but they did make me feel a little queasy. At least, I think it was the rides...

Then I was so tired I almost took a nap right there! So mom and dad decided it was time to carry me home.

Remember to hold on with both hands when you go on the rides.

Now I can ride up in my ferris wheel car and guess what? Those lights really are my tubes, and they are full of seeds I have been hiding in them for days. I love this holiday!
